How State Revenue Office Tasmania calculates the tax
- The current scale has been in effect since 1 July 2025.
Surcharges for foreign and absentee owners
A surcharge is charged as extra land tax on top of the usual bill. Overseas people and companies are considered foreign owners. The extra tax applies to those owners or to absentee owners, depending on the state. Absentee owners do not usually live in Australia.
- FILTS, the foreign investor land tax surcharge, is 2% of the assessed land value.
